Welsh Saffron / Saffrwm Cymreig
At the start of springtime, the sativus crocus leaves are in peak condition and this time is used by the corms to gather nutrients and water and with the increasing hours of sunshine and a bit of warmth, the corms underground will be multiplying off of the original mother corm producing baby corms that will hopefully plump up nicely over the next two or three months to become the mother corms for the flowers and saffron that will emerge around October time.
This is when the position of the saffron field becomes important giving access to sunlight from dawn until dusk, and the gentle slope ensures that any heavy rainfall gently drains away.
